As I’ve mentioned on many occasions, one of the reasons Halloween is a great niche to get started in is because it’s not too difficult to secure to rankings in the search engines. There are many important things you need to do well in order to get top Google rankings but the most important thing of all is link building. If you’re able to get a few good links to each of your Halloween sites you’ll find you do very well in the search engines.

Submit an Article to Ezine Articles
This is easy and works very well. All you need to do is signup for a free account at EzineArticles.com and then submit an article about your niche costumes website. When you submit your article you can put two links in the resource section, at least one of these should be using your target keywords and linking to your costume site.
Link From Another Of Your Websites To Your Costume Website
If you own a number of websites this is the easiest and quickest way to get a link to your costume website. I’ve used this method extensively and found it to be very effective. All you need to do is add a link at the bottom of each of your other websites with the anchor text of your costume website.
Search For Blogs and HubPages to Comment On
Search for keywordluv blogs in google which are about your topic. I do this using the following search phrase:
“keywordluv” + costume
You can also go to HubPages and do a search for hubs about your topic. Leave a few comments and you’re bound to have a few accepted.
Consider Paid Services Such as Article Marketing Automation or Unique Article Wizard
These services are article spinning services. They work very well to build links quickly however they can be expensive.
Links are the most important thing when trying to get top search rankings. Keep this in mind when planning your Halloween campaign this year.

Some Halloween Marketing Advice
When many people think about marketing in the Halloween niche they assume that there is just too much competition and that all the good domain names are taken. This simply isn’t the case. There are literally thousands of different costumes to sell during Halloween and this means there are tens of thousands of opportunities.
When you are deciding on the exact keywords you want to target, I recommend you first take a look at the number of competing pages in Google (Do this by typing the costume name into the Google search engine). Ideally you should target a keyword with less than 3,000,000 broad competing pages of less than 50,000 phrase match competing pages. You might next want to check the traffic levels for your target keyword phrase by checking the Google Adwords Tool or Google Insights. I use both of these free tools to get an idea about the amount of traffic each of my target search terms has.
If you’re struggling to find a search term that you’re happy with (or an available domain name), try including term modifier’s to your search terms. these could include words such as “kids”, “adults”, “scary”, “Halloween”, “men’s”, “women’s”, “boys”, “girls” and so on. You’ll soon realize that there are a wealth of options available to you.

My Take On Using Alt Tags To Generate More Traffic…
In the final couple of days Brian has been providing a few tips for getting more traffic to your Halloween sites. If you haven’t checked out the video he’s made you can see it HERE.
The tactic he’s talking about is making use of Alt Tags on images and pictures you may have on your website. In the video Brian explains how he got tens of thousands of extra visitors by having the images on his site rank highly in the Google image search results.
My take on Alt tags, are they really worth using?
Alt Tags on images take an additional 2 seconds to set up and can bring you a lot of fresh traffic that you wouldn’t have otherwise received. What’s more, the Alt Tag’s are read by Google’s bot’s when they spider your website and they will infact help you rank even better for the keywords you’re targeting.
When I name my Alt Tags I usually like to name them using slight variations of my keyword. For example, if my target keyword is “zombie costume”, I might label my images with the tag of “Zombie Halloween Costumes”. By doing this I have a good chance of my image ranking in Google well for the search term “zombie Halloween costumes”. There is much less competition for this that the more generic keyword of “zombie costumes”.
Why I LOVE Halloween…
Like Brian G Johnson, Halloween is by far my favorite time of the year and indeed my all time favorite niche to target with internet marketing. There are many reasons I like to target Halloween and why I recommend newbies and experienced internet marketers target Halloween as well.
First and foremost, there is an almost unlimited range of costumes and keywords available to rank for…there is no limit to costumes you can sell and you don’t need to worry about too much competition because the possibilities really are endless. This makes is easy for even inexperienced internet marketers to rank well in Google and drive sales for literally hundreds of search phrases.
Another reason I like to target the Halloween niche is because there is a fantastic company called BuyCostumes which have a very good affiliate program. In my time as an affiliate for BuyCostumes I’ve only had good experiences. They offer a dedicated affiliate manager who is very good at providing support on a range of levels – this can’t be said for a lot of other “Half Baked” affiliate companies.
Another reason I love promoting Halloween costumes is because there is a massive market which is hungry to purchase. What’s more, there is a deadline by which the NEED to buy which makes them even more eager to purchase a costume and purchase quickly. If people don’t have their costumes in time for Halloween they simply miss out on all the fun – this gives people a strong reason to buy and buy early while stock lasts.
