If you’ve never previously targeted a seasonal niche before, you may be a little bit skeptical when it comes to targeting Halloween or any other holiday for that matter, after all, you’re only going to get paid once a year right?

This is exactly how I was feeling in July of 2009. I like to try new things online though an decided to give it a chance. I initially went out and bout 5 domains and went about writing content for them and setting them up.

I then built a few basic links to those sites and before I knew it they were all in the top 10 of Google and to my surprise were actually making a few sales (keep in mind this was early August – Halloween sales peak in October). With this early success I decided to build a few more websites…a few more turned into 27 and a strong mindset that I really did want to target Halloween and profit from all the costume buyers.

So that’s what I went through in 2009…but why should you target this Holiday and why costumes?

There are a number of reasons why Halloween is such a good time to make money online, I’ll outline a few of the main reasons below:

  • Firstly, there are millions and millions of people searching for costumes on the internet during the months of September and October. With so many people searching the possibilities are huge.
  • Secondly, people are in a “buying mindset”. They need to buy costumes for all the costume parties and events that take place in the lead up to Halloween. Because they are ready to buy, the conversion rates are higher than normal – I often experienced 5% conversion rates!
  • People need to buy their costumes by a set date. This creates a real urgency which equates to more sales.
  • There are literally thousands of costumes you can target and people search for these costumes using tens of thousands of different keywords. This mean the market will never truly be saturated and there is plenty of opportunity for everyone.
  • Another reason Halloween is a great market to target is because it’s easier to rank well in Google for the types of “costume” orientated Halloween keywords people are searching for than it is for most other niche markets.
